  • UMW Alumni Thrive In Speridian Technologies’ New Wave Program

The University of Montana Western continues to see its graduates excel in professional environments, including unique opportunities such as Speridian Technologies' New Wave Accelerator Program. Designed to prepare recent graduates for careers in technology and consulting, the program has become a launching pad for Montana Western alumni. UMW alumni and Speridian Technologies employees, Wesley Korpi (left) and Trinity Bushnell (right). As a global business and technology solutions provider,  Speridian Technologies  and its 3,200+ business and technology experts help clients modernize their businesses through digital transformation. The New Wave program, founded in 2022, offers technology-focused career opportunities in southwest Montana through a six-month training program that starts in January and May. Designed to give participants an immersive experience in several technology and business-related disciplines, including Project Management, Business Analysis, and Account Management, participants learn these disciplines through assignment-based learning, job shadowing, client-facing projects, and certifications. Recently, Wesley Korpi and Trinity Bushnell, both 2023 graduates of UMW, have successfully transitioned from the New Wave Program to full-time roles at Speridian. Their stories highlight the blend of academic preparation and experiential learning that Montana Western provides. Originally from Dillon, Montana, Wesley Korpi graduated in December 2023 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a minor in Small Business Management. Growing up in Dillon, Wesley witnessed firsthand the community’s strong support for the university. This, combined with UMW’s small class sizes and block scheduling, ultimately drew him to attend. “This unique structure allowed me to work closely with my professors and classmates, forging a collaborative learning environment where I could engage deeply with my education, rather than feeling like just another face in a crowd,” said Wesley. During his time at UMW, Wesley’s diverse business coursework played a significant role in preparing him for the Speridian New Wave program. These courses provided him with a well-rounded understanding of key business concepts and practical skills, including proficiency with Microsoft products, business operations, and strategic planning. Unsure about his career direction after college, Wesley viewed the opportunity to join Speridian’s New Wave program as an excellent starting point for his professional journey. He had heard positive feedback from past participants about the supportive environment and knowledgeable team he would be working with. Additionally, the flexibility to work remotely after completing the program was especially appealing. During the program, Wesley described his experience as a trainee as incredible. The program provided him with hands-on training in multiple roles, including Business Analyst and Project Manager. He was able to further develop his business knowledge and professionalism while gaining the skills needed to excel in these roles. “The program struck a perfect balance between being an enjoyable experience and providing a supportive environment for personal and professional growth,” Wesley said. Wesley now works as a Business Analyst in the Public Sector division at Speridian, using his skills to help clients improve their systems and processes. Trinity Bushnell, from Helena, Montana, graduated with honors from UMW in 2023, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a minor in Small Business Management. Trinity’s decision to attend UMW was influenced by the unique block scheduling system and the opportunity to compete on the rodeo team. At UMW, Trinity developed both technical and soft skills through her advanced business courses and the collaborative environment fostered by experiential learning. She said this combination is what set UMW apart from other universities. “You must be able to be collaborative and outgoing enough to tackle any challenge or project head-on. I think that UMW’s experience-based learning teaches students this from the very beginning,” explained Trinity. Trinity was drawn to the New Wave program because of its unique structure and purpose. She noted that programs like this are rare, offering specialized training and preparation that seamlessly transition participants into careers within the same company. The New Wave program provided Trinity with hands-on experience and the chance to shadow professionals in various roles across the company, introducing her to career paths she hadn’t previously considered. The program also offered extensive training in different software applications, with opportunities to earn multiple certifications. While the environment was competitive, Trinity emphasized the strong peer support and collaboration required to succeed, which made the experience both challenging and rewarding. Trinity now works as a hybrid Business Analyst and Project Manager. Her role involves collaborating with clients, documenting system requirements, and ensuring that development teams meet project goals. She also plays a key role in managing project plans and resources to ensure team success. The University of Montana Western is proud to celebrate Wesley and Trinity’s professional achievements and deeply appreciates partnerships with organizations like Speridian, which provide valuable career opportunities for students. Students interested in applying for the May 2025 New Wave program are encouraged to contact Program Director, Matt Allen: matthew.allen@speridian.com or 406-925-9834. • Search And Rescue Holds Appreciation Dinner

Submitted by: Mel Rice, Public Relations   On the evening of December 19, the Beaverhead County Search and Rescue held its annual appreciation dinner at the Beaverhead Golf Course.   A wonderful meal and refreshments were had by all.   This evening is to thank all of our spouses and family members for putting up with the late-night and weekend call outs and other interruptions in family routines.  Sometimes they can be very trying, not only for family members but also for S&R members as well.  During the evening several individuals were acknowledged for their outstanding contributions during the year.  Since there haven’t been any awards presented since 2021 because of covid, there was some catching up to do.  Commander Kolby Malesich made several presentations on the evening.  The first one was a plaque to Parke Scott for his dedication and longevity to the unit.  As previously noted, Parke retired from the BVHD S&R in October of this year.  Next, awards were presented to three individuals representing “Rookie of the Year”; Steve Mock for 2022, Adam Norlander for 2023, and Jaime Trivette for 2024.  After these awards, Kolby presented Steve Mock with the 2024 “Member of the Year” award.  Steve with all his expertise has been very instrumental in developing a good rope team for working on moderate to steep inclines.  He has put on several trainings during the last two years.  Steve has also been very reliable when it comes to showing up and working callouts on searches and rescues.  Congratulations to each of the award recipients.  Keep up the great work.  Commander Malesich then thanked the entire Unit for their dedication to serving the people of Beaverhead County and all those who come here to recreate in our great outdoors.  Your Beaverhead Search and Rescue would also like to wish everyone a “Very Merry Christmas” and a Joyous Holiday Season.  Thank you for all your support over the years. The 4 received awards. Left to Right- Parke Scott, Steve Mock, Adam Norlander, Jaime Trivette.  SAR members that attended the dinner.
