Bulldog Volleyball Opens Conference Play with Decisive 3-1 Victory Over Valley City State

VALLEY CITY, N.D, – The Montana Western volleyball team (3-5, 1-0 FC) defeated Valley City State 3-1 (25-22, 23-25, 25-17, 25-20) in its Frontier Conference opener Friday evening in North Dakota.
"I thought tonight was a great, hard-fought win," Head Coach Katie Lovett said. "We knew Valley City was going to be a tough team, but we worked really well together. It was great to see the things we're working on implemented into the game."
MATCH SUMMARY
UMW started hot with a 6-1 run and never relinquished the lead, taking set one 25-22. The two sides traded points in the second frame, but the host managed to steal the two-point victory, 25-23, to level things at a set apiece. The Bulldogs wouldn't back down, however, and stormed back into the lead with a 25-17 set three win. In the final set, the Bulldogs once again jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, but Valley City State wouldn't go quietly, tying it at 20 late in the game. UMW scored the final five points to take the match 3-1 and go 1-0 in league play.

LEADERBOARD
Jordan Olson led the game with 17 kills, followed by Dani Brown with 12.
Megan Hardman led all players with 27 assists, with Sophie Worden adding 21.
Taylor Ketchum and Kennedy Lingenfelter shared the game high with two aces apiece.
Ketchum also led the Bulldogs defensively, earning a team-best 28 digs.
Jaiden Perez tallied a game-best seven blocks while Olson followed close behind with six.
SPLIT BOX
Montana Western held the statistical advantage in nearly every category. The Bulldogs outperformed the Vikings in Kills (58-45), blocks (13-8), assists (57-40), and digs (83-72). The two sides tied in aces with six each.
LOOKING AHEAD
UMW is back in action tomorrow when they face off at Mayville State in a Saturday matinee contest. The match is set to kick off at 11 a.m. MT/ 12 p.m. CT.
