UMW Sports Press Release

MAYVILLE, N.D. – The Montana Western volleyball team (4-5, 2-0 FC) rolled over Mayville State 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-19) Saturday afternoon in North Dakota. The Bulldog defense stepped up in a big way, forcing the Comets to a negative hitting percentage (-.037).

"This was a great first weekend against two new Frontier opponents," Head Coach Katie Lovett said. "I was really impressed with how the team was able to reset quickly when things weren't going to plan and how aggressive they stayed all weekend."

MATCH SUMMARY

After Mayville State won the first two points in the opening frame, Western went on a 7-1 run to claim the lead 7-3. The Comets never got closer than two again and the Bulldogs went on another huge run to take set one 25-14. Set two saw UMW take complete control, leading by as many as 14 before closing it out 25-14. The hosts put up a valiant effort in the final frame, but they were no match for the Bulldogs, who completed the sweep 25-19.
