The plan is to finish installing services on Bannack from Montana to Idaho. We will then install the services on Idaho from Glendale to Bannack. We should have Bannack graveled and open by the end of this week. As far as Idaho goes the engineers messed up the data for me to use to make my GPS model so I just got that today. Hopefully we can get a quick turn around on the model building and we can get to grading the road between Center and Bannack. Concrete guys will be there Wednesday and should get most of the ADAs done. We will post sidewalk closed signs as they are curing. Let me know if you have any questions. The Dillon Cubs wrapped up their home games for the season on Sunday July 17. Coming off a one win one loss from the previous day the cubs took to the field against the Tri-County Cardinals. Hoping to pull off to final wins for the season would slip away, as they would go down one the first game with a 6 to 2 loss. In the second game the Cubs would struggle through with a 17 to 4 loss to end their home field games. A full gallery and stats are below. It was a busy day Saturday at Ray Lynch Park as the Beaverhead Little League was hosting tournament play and the Dillon Cubs would be playing their second to last home game of the season. The first game would seem to go head to head, each inning being scoreless until Connor Vezina stepped up to the plate to send one out of the park, giving the Cubs a one point win in game one. Congratulations Connor on your first home run from Cubs field and bringing home the win for game one. The University of Montana Western is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Randy Johnson as Director of Student Success. Dr. Johnson earned a B.A. in Child Development and Family Relations and an M.S. in Sociology from Brigham Young University, as well as a Ph.D. in Sociology/Gerontology from the University of Washington. He also completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Case Western University. “I’m so excited to join the University of Montana Western team! This is a unique opportunity for me to work with the X1 model and help build on the efforts and programs already in place at the Dillon campus. I’m looking forward to becoming part of the university community and working hard to continue the legacy of student success at Montana Western,” said Dr. Johnson. Among many other professional positions, Dr. Johnson served in several leadership positions at Broadview University, including Dean of Faculty, Campus Director, Director of Career Services, and Dean of Education. He also served as a Lead Student Success Advisor at Southern Utah University. “Dr. Johnson brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Montana Western. His personable approach and laser focus on student success are perfectly aligned with our institution. Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is seeking public input on revisions to the statewide Elk Management Plan last adopted in 2005. FWP began work on the revised plan in 2020, when a citizen’s group was convened to develop guiding principles for the new plan. FWP is seeking input on the existing elk population objectives and local elk management challenges that should be considered in the revision. The scoping period started several weeks ago, but meetings have been sparsely attended and FWP has received few comments to date. “We’ve been hearing concerns and interest from hunters and landowners about the current Elk Management Plan for a while now,” said FWP Director Hank Worsech. “This is a great opportunity to participate in revising that plan. We can’t have a good plan without knowing what people want elk management and elk objectives to look like in Montana.” Information on current elk population objectives being considered for revision can be viewed here . In addition, FWP is hosting a series of public meetings this summer and fall to gather ideas and input. Meeting places, times and details are posted on the FWP website . “If you’re interested in elk management in Montana, we need to hear from you on this,” Worsech said. “Please attend a meeting in your area, go online, read through the information and make comments.” The deadline for public comment is Oct. 15. The Montana Department of Commerce announced today $50 million in federal assistance funding is now available to help Montana homeowners impacted by the pandemic stay in their homes and get caught up on their mortgage and utility bills. The funding, available through Montana Housing’s Homeowner Assistance Fund (HAF) program, helps homeowners who have experienced a financial hardship that has worsened or incurred after January 21, 2020. A financial hardship means a reduction in income, or an increase in living expenses associated with the coronavirus pandemic that has created, or increased, a risk of mortgage delinquency, mortgage default, foreclosure, loss of utilities or home energy services, or homeowner displacement. “Currently, Commerce has aided more than 8,400 Montanans with more than $66 million of rent and utility assistance . Now, through our HAF program, we have an opportunity to help eligible Montana homeowners as well,” said Montana Department of Commerce Director Scott Osterman. “The HAF program is designed to assist our friends and neighbors impacted by the pandemic to get caught up on their mortgages, pay utility bills, and most importantly, stay in their homes.” Eligible homeowners may use HAF funds three ways: Mortgage Reinstatement : Financial assistance, in the form of an interest-free loan, to bring a mortgage account current with no remaining delinquent amounts, including payments, under a forbearance plan, and to repay amounts advanced by the lender or servicer on the homeowner’s behalf for property charges. Lien Prevention : Financial assistance in the form of a grant to prevent property tax foreclosure or remove or prevent creation of other liens that would place a homeowner at imminent risk of displacement. Utilities/Internet : Financial assistance in the form of a grant to assist with electric, gas, home energy costs, and internet/broadband services. The HAF program will serve Montanans whose gross household income does not exceed 150 percent of the Area Median Income (AMI). Additionally, 60 percent of funds available must target Montanans whose gross household income does not exceed 100 percent of the AMI. Applicants can check their income eligibility using Montana Housing’s online tool on the HAF website. “Our Homeowner Assistance Fund Pilot Program has already helped over 45 Montana homeowners get caught up on their mortgages with over $450,000 in reinstatement loans .” said Montana Housing Division Administrator Cheryl Cohen. “We’re excited to launch the statewide program to offer reinstatement loans, lien prevention grants, and assistance with home energy costs to help qualified Montana homeowners remain in their homes and regain some financial equilibrium.” The Montana Homeowner Assistance Fund’s $50 million in federal funding was allocated by Congress to the State of Montana through the American Rescue Plan Act, and appropriated to the Department of Commerce through the passage of HB 632. The Sports & Activities Complex project at the University of Montana Western recently achieved a major milestone due to recent fundraising gifts totaling $1 million. These latest donations bring the total to $3.2M funds raised, initiating the land transfer and project design. The Sports & Activities Complex will be built on 14 acres of land adjacent to campus that John and Phyllis Erb pledged to the university in 2019. As part of the pledge, the Erbs included a fundraising challenge that provided the momentum to launch the fundraising efforts. The Erbs’ vision is the establishment of a space that will benefit not only the students at Montana Western, but also the youth in Beaverhead County, in addition to the Montana Youth Challenge Academy cadets. “The Erbs’ pledge was the catalyst for this project,” said Montana Western Chancellor, Michael Reid. “We are so grateful for their generosity and shared vision that creating a facility like this on campus would be transformative for both the university and our community.” The recent support includes a $500,000 gift from the Baty family and a $200,000 combined gift from Jennifer Johnson and Greg and Tracy Johnson. Beaverhead Motors also pledged $100,000 to the project. These recent generous gifts combined with earlier leadership pledges of $100,000 from Pioneer Federal Savings & Loan, Matt and Jenny Blades and a $225,000 gift from the Harrington family bring the total raised to $3.2 million which fulfills the 2019 fundraising challenge and ensures the $4 million project will move forward. “We are very excited about the community’s response to this project,” said Roxanne Engellant, Executive Director of the University of Montana Western Foundation. “The support is a clear indication that people believe in Montana Western and are willing to invest in its future.
