A 27 year old Dillon man was killed Sunday July 31, in a head on motorcycle crash on highway 43 mile marker 70. A Montana Highway Patrol report states the man was going around a curve when speed and or road conditions caused the motorcycle to go into the westbound lane and collide with a Ford F150. The driver of the pickup truck attempted to stop and avoid the motorcycle but was unable to. The driver of the Ford was uninjured. We divided into companies and tested all the hoses for ISO compliance. We had 2 members complete Naloxone training & will be training the rest of the members on it in the coming months.

From Kipp Shumway Mungas Company Plan for the week is to do the dig out of the soft spot on Idaho from Helena to Center and get it filled back in, graveled and opened back up. Paving will be happening on Idaho and Bannack this week and the streets will be opened back up as soon as the asphalt is cool enough to drive on. The last of the storm drain will be installed on Idaho. We are still waiting on data from the engineer for our GPS to get the street subgrade cut so we can gravel it. I'm hoping to have it this week. As soon as we get it we ill get the last two blocks of Idaho cut to subgrade and graveled. Work on the Fairground will also begin this week and should be installed by the end of next week.

Treasure, Bighorn and Musselshell counties all entered Stage 1 fire restrictions this week. Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks follows the counties’ lead in placing fire restrictions on its properties within that county, so campfire and smoking restrictions also will be in place at FWP sites within those counties. The exception will be Tongue River Reservoir State Park in Bighorn County, where campfires will still be allowed in designated fire rings. The following FWP sites in Treasure County will be impacted by fire restrictions: Amelia Island Fishing Access Site and Wildlife Management Area, Myers Bridge FAS, and Isaac Homestead Wildlife Management Area. In Bighorn County, Rosebud Battlefield State Park will be under restrictions. Musselshell County has no impacted FWP sites. Under Stage 1 restrictions, building, maintaining, attending or using a fire or campfire at FWP sites is not allowed. People also may not smoke except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is cleared of flammable materials. Recreationists may cook on a liquid petroleum gas or propane stove that can be turned on and off. These restrictions at FWP sites will be in place until further notice. FWP urges people to use caution while they are out recreating due to dry conditions and fire dangers.

A red Chevy pickup truck Friday afternoon pulling a camper which overturned is blocking the right side of I-15 Northbound near MM 55. Use caution if you are traveling northbound in this area as first responders are on scene working to get the area cleared. Those involved in the wreck were walking around and talking with officers on the scene. We will update this story as more information becomes available. UPDATE: The driver of the Chevy truck was attempting to pass a semi carrying a wind turbine blade, when he got to close to the left hand side of the road. The trailer caught the shoulder of the road, pulling the truck farther to the left. The driver tried to pull back onto the road and over corrected, causing the trailer to roll onto its side. After first responders freed the trailer from the truck, the driver and his family were able to drive away.

On Thursday, July 28, 2022 at 10:05am, the Madison County Communications Center received a 911 call from the area of South Main Street in Twin Bridges. Deputies and emergency medical personnel responded to an initial report of an adult female victim that had been injured in a possible assault. The reported suspects were two adult males that had fled the incident scene. Witnesses at the scene reported the fleeing suspects were possibly armed with a firearm. Madison County Deputies and Montana Highway Patrol responded to the Sheridan area in an attempt to locate the fleeing vehicle and suspects. The male suspects were reported driving on Mill Creek Road outside Sheridan. At 11:38am, MHP Troopers and Madison County Deputies performed a high-risk traffic stop with the individuals near the 200 block of Mill Creek Road. One of the suspects was arrested on scene with charges now pending. The second suspect was detained at the scene and subsequently released without charges. The female victim was transported from the scene to a medical facility to receive care for her injuries. Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is seeking public comment on ice fishing contests proposed for the 2022-2023 season. Participants must comply with state fishing regulations, including daily and possession limits. Applications for fishing contests may be approved, approved with conditions or denied by the FWP Fisheries Division in Helena. Conditions placed on contests may help to minimize fish mortality, regulate harvest, reduce user conflicts or require additional access site maintenance when needed. Information on the proposed fishing contests can be found on the FWP Fishing Contest webpage, https://fwp.mt.gov/fish/regulations/contests or by calling 406-444-2449. Daily hoot owl fishing restrictions are being implemented for sections of the Gallatin, Beaverhead, Big Hole and Clark Fork rivers to reduce fish stress and mortality during high water temperatures. Hoot owl restrictions prohibit fishing each day between 2 p.m. and midnight. These restrictions go into effect at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 29: Gallatin River: from the mouth of the river to Cameron Bridge Fishing Access Site Beaverhead River: from the mouth of the river to Selway Park FAS Big Hole River: From the North Fork of the Big Hole to Saginaw Bridge FAS Dickie Bridge FAS to the confluence with the North Fork of the Big Hole Tony Schoonen FAS to FWP’s Maidenrock FAS Clark Fork: from the confluence with Flint Creek to the confluence with Warm Springs Creek and Silver Bow Creek Hoot owl restrictions are currently in place for these waters: Big Hole River: from the confluence with the Beaverhead River to Tony Schoonen FAS East Gallatin River: from the confluence with the West Gallatin River at Nixon Bridge to Penwell Bridge Road Jefferson River: the entire river Madison River: from the Warm Springs boat launch to the confluence with the Jefferson River Smith River: from the confluence of the North Fork and South Fork to Eden Bridge FAS Sun River: from the Highway 287 bridge to the mouth of Muddy Creek Water temperatures in these areas have exceeded 73 degrees for three consecutive days, meeting criteria for the restrictions. The restrictions will remain in place until water temperatures allow for lifting the restrictions or until Sept. 15. Fishing restrictions, such as hoot owl restrictions and full closures, are designed to protect fish that become more susceptible to disease and mortality when conditions, such as low flows and high water temperatures, combine with other stressors, including catch-and-release fishing. Restrictions may be put in place for other waterbodies as warm temperatures continue in the coming weeks. Anglers can find a statewide list of current restrictions at fwp.mt.gov/news/current-closures-restrictions . All stress to fish at this time of year is cumulative, and anglers should consider fishing in cooler waters during times of low flows and high water temperatures in rivers. Anglers can help reduce stress for fish by following these practices when catching and releasing fish, though fish mortality may still occur: Fish during the coolest times of day, where permitted. Land the fish quickly. Wet your hands before handling the fish. Keep the fish in water as much as possible. Remove the hook gently. Using artificial lures with single and barbless hooks can make hook removal faster and easier. If the fish is hooked deeply, you may have to cut the line at the fish’s mouth or consider keeping it if regulations allow. Let the fish recover before releasing it. An emergency safety closure remains in effect on the Yellowstone River from Mayors Landing FAS to Sheep Mountain FAS.

On July 25, 2022 at 15:30 hours an officer with the Dillon Police Department along with a Beaverhead County Sheriff's deputy responded to 76 W. Center St, at the Bicentennial Apartments for an ambulance call. During their investigation it was determined that the female was assaulted by a male. The male was arrested for 45-5-206 of Montana code annotated, partner or family member assault. The male suspect was identified as 27 year old Dustin Jansen of Dillon, MT. Jansen was transported to the Beaverhead County Jail.

Watercraft inspectors protect Montana’s waters from harmful aquatic invasive species (AIS). This year, these inspectors have already intercepted 35 mussel fouled boats traveling through or launching in the state of Montana and have conducted over 51,000 inspections at 22 roadside Watercraft Inspection Stations . More than 6,000 boats were inspected over the 4th of July weekend, with many stations seeing over 100 boats per day. Watercraft Inspector Appreciation Week is a time to celebrate and recognize the great work of our state's inspectors, and all of the area supervisors and other FWP staff that support them in the important work of preventing AIS.
