Sunday Morning Crash On Highway 43 Claims One, Four Injured

A 69-year-old woman from Wyoming died Sunday morning and four passengers were injured when she lost control. The SUV she was driving overturned on highway 43 around mile marker eight.

The crash occurred at 9:30 A.M. and the highway was wet at the time. The Montana Highway patrol reported that the Nissan Armada had four passengers who were transported to Hamilton to be treated at Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital for injuries received in the crash.

The driver of the SUV was heading eastbound on Highway 43 when she lost control and left the roadway. The patrol's report stated the vehicle traveled 250 feet along the embankment next to the road, "vaulted after running over a large rock, causing it to become airborne." The SUV landed, impacting the driver’s side left quarter panel, causing the vehicle to overturn. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Dillon Volunteer Fire Department was called out to aid in the extraction of the driver.
