Dillon Cubs Drop Pair of Close Games to Gallatin Outlaws in Three Forks

THREE FORKS, Mont. — The Dillon Cubs came up short in both games of a Tuesday night doubleheader against the Gallatin Outlaws, falling 4-0 in the opener before dropping a heartbreaking 5-4 decision in the nightcap on a walk-off hit-by-pitch.


Gallatin Outlaws 4, Dillon Cubs 0

The Gallatin Outlaws struck first in the opening inning when Lucas Petersen singled to drive in the game's first run before extending their lead in the second.


Jaxson Iddings delivered an RBI single to the right side of the infield, and Petersen later drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 3-0. The Outlaws added another run and held the Cubs scoreless the rest of the way.


Jaxson Iddings earned the complete-game victory for Gallatin, allowing just four hits over seven shutout innings while striking out 10 without issuing a walk.



Sawyer Tackett took the loss for Dillon despite a solid outing, pitching 3⅔ innings while allowing four runs, only two of them earned. Tackett struck out seven batters and surrendered five hits while walking five.


Andrew Bartlome paced the Cubs offensively with two hits in three at-bats.


Gallatin received one hit each from Tristan Engbretson, Scotty LeMay, Lucas Petersen, Conley Christiansen, and Jaxson Iddings. Petersen, Christiansen, and Iddings each drove in a run, while the Outlaws played flawless defense without committing an error.

The second game proved to be a dramatic back-and-forth contest that wasn't decided until the final play.


Trailing 4-0 after three innings, Dillon mounted an impressive comeback. The Cubs chipped away with a run on an error before Sawyer Tackett blasted a game-tying home run to left field in the top of the seventh, knotting the score at 4-4.


Unfortunately for Dillon, the Outlaws answered in the bottom half of the inning. With the bases loaded, Gavin Sather was hit by a pitch, forcing home the winning run and giving Gallatin a 5-4 walk-off victory.



The Outlaws jumped out early with two runs on a wild pitch in the first inning and added two more in the third on RBI singles by Lucas Petersen and Scotty LeMay.


Sawyer Marx earned the complete-game victory for Gallatin, allowing four hits and four runs, all unearned, while striking out two.


Ben Peacock was charged with the loss in relief after pitching 2⅓ innings. He allowed one run without giving up a hit, struck out two, and walked three. Trenton Moreni started for the Cubs, striking out nine over four innings while allowing four runs, three earned.


Tackett led the Dillon offense by going 2-for-4 with three RBIs, highlighted by his game-tying homer in the seventh inning. The Cubs also turned one double play defensively.



For Gallatin, Tristan Engbretson, Scotty LeMay, Lucas Petersen, Dawson Davis, and Jaxson Iddings each recorded a hit. Petersen and Gavin Sather each drove in a run, while the Outlaws displayed patience at the plate, drawing eight walks. LeMay, Quinn Tebay, and Dawson Davis each collected two walks.


The Dillon Cubs will look to bounce back on Thursday when they travel to face the Lewis-Clark Twins.
