Weekend Rundown

The weekend is coming up fast and a lot is happening. We thought we would do a weekend Rundown and let everyone know of all the great events going on this weekend. If you have an event we missed please email us at southwesternmtnews@gmail.com to get it added.



Friday, April 21st

Glassblowing Presentation and Demonstration The University of Montana Western is pleased to announce that local glass artists, Elizabeth and Michael Walters, will present a public lecture and glassblowing demonstration on Friday, April 21 at 3:30 p.m. at the Emerick Art Studios.

The artists will work with UMW glassblowing students April 17-21, hosted by Montana Western’s Glass Program. On Friday, April 21, at 3:30 p.m., the artists will present a public visual lecture based on their history with glass and directly afterwards, from 4:15-5:30 p.m., the artists will give a glassblowing demonstration. All are invited to attend the free event and light refreshments will be served.

Mythfest III The University of Montana Western’s Fine Arts Department and Bank of Commerce Performing Arts Series is pleased to announce its spring performance festival, “Mythfest III”, to be held April 20-May 3, 2023.

Back for its third year, “Mythfest III” is an international virtual performance festival based at the University of Montana Western in Dillon, Montana and directed by Miranda Zent. The festival features UMW student talent and guest artists from around the United States and abroad. This season will feature tales of saints, dreamers, secrets, mermaids, rock stars, cats, healers, and more through old and new works in playwriting, storytelling, poetry, imagery, music, digital media, and reimagined classics.

Saturday, April 22nd

Swing into Spring Come down to the Fairgrounds on April 22nd and spoil yourself and your horse!! This event is going to be from 10:00am to 5:00pm at the Beaverhead County Fairgrounds in the Hog Barn.

We are selling 10 tickets for three different services at a packaged deal of $200. You will get the option between two services provided by the 3 local businesses below:

- A 30 minute PEMF session for your horse OR a 30-minute PEMF session for you by Four Legs Rehab LLC!!

- One black background headshot of your horse OR a professional picture of you and your horse together!!

- A customized rider exercises for you OR a small motion video analysis of you riding!!

In addition, this event is FREE to the public to come shop local vendors, learn about what we can offer at our lunch and learn, and sign up for FREE raffle prizes! We can't wait to see you there!!



The Big Hole Valley Historical Society will be at The Bookstore on Saturday, April

22nd from 10:00 to 3:00. They will be promoting and taking orders for the second

volume of the Big Hole History book that is expected to be released in August.

Copies of the first volume are available to purchase.

The Historical Society is a 501c3 that uses the proceeds from their endeavors to

provide scholarships to Big Hole Valley students and to preserve the rich history

of the area. Stop by the Bookstore Saturday and visit with the amazing volunteers

of the Big Hole Valley Historical Society, reserve your copy of volume 2 and share

your memories of the Big Hole. If you have any questions call 683-6807

Montana Western Athletics has a fun weekend ahead of free events for the community to be a part of. The Bulldog Football Team wraps up spring practices with the Montana Western Spring Game this Saturday. There is also a pair of alumni games in the Straugh Gymnasium. The schedule is as follows:

Montana Western “Night of Stars” Education Hall Of Fame Event News The University of Montana Western’s Education Department and Alumni Office, in partnership with Stockman Bank, present the Tenth Annual Night of Stars, to be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023 on the Montana Western campus.

The schedule of events includes the Education Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at 6:00 p.m. in the Beier Auditorium, followed by drinks and hors d’ourves at 8:00 p.m. in the Lewis and Clark room, located in Mathews Hall. Will be livestreamed by SWMT


10 Mile Road, Dillon, Montana, United States, 59725 Please join us on April 22nd for a trash pick-up day along 10 Mile Road (The Dump Road). We will meet at the High Trails parking lot at 10am and pick up trash along the Dump Road towards the Beaverhead River. BTC will provide trash bags and transport the trash to the landfill. Volunteers should bring gloves and any high visibility vests they may have.

Sunday, April 23rd

Climb The M - 10k & 5K Trail Race Montana Running Company is hosting the 5th Annual “Climb The M” 10k and 5k Trail Race on Sunday April 23, 2023. “Climb The M” Trail Race is located in Dillon, Montana on the Beaverhead Trails Coalition property. The race is a fundraiser for the University of Montana Western Cross-Country team.

The 5k will start at the Dillon High Trails trailhead at 9AM and the 10K will start at 9:30AM. The course will lead you right by the historic M on the hill and through the beautiful rugged desert trails and canyons back to the trailhead. Runners will do one lap for the 5K and two laps for the 10K. This is a technical trail run that will challenge you as a runner.

Day of race "Packet Pickup" will be at Beaverhead Trails Coalition Dillon Overlook/M Trail Head (Ten Mile Road) 8AM. Parking will be in the old dump location.


First Baptist Church will be celebrating their 140th anniversary, join them Sunday April 23rd at 2:30 for a historical program followed by a reception. Public is invited. Located on the corner of Sebree and Idaho Street call 406 683 4438 for more information.
