Tragic Accident At Maverick Mountain: Skier Dies After Collision with Tree

A tragic incident occurred at Maverick Mountain Ski Area when a skier, identified as 23-year-old Henry Schmidt from Decatur, Indiana, lost his life after colliding with a tree. The incident unfolded shortly after noon when the Maverick Mountain Ski Patrol received an urgent report of a skier who had veered off a groomed trail and struck a tree.

Ski patrol responded promptly, finding Schmidt unresponsive and without a heartbeat. CPR was immediately administered on the scene. Despite their rapid action, which included transporting him down the mountain in a rescue toboggan, Schmidt succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at Barrett's Hospital.

The teams from Maverick Mountain Ski Patrol and Grasshopper Fire and Ambulance were commended for their swift and professional response. They worked tirelessly to provide immediate care and ensure fast transport. However, despite their best efforts, the severe nature of Schmidt's injuries resulted in a tragic outcome.
As investigations into the accident continue, thoughts and prayers are extended to Henry Schmidt's family and friends during this difficult time. Appreciation also goes to the first responders who acted with valor and urgency in this challenging situation.
