The University of Montana Western will host the National Guard's 83rd Civil Support Team for a Hazmat Training Exercise on Wednesday, July 17, and Thursday, July 18, 2024. This training event will take place on a designated section of the campus between the Bulldog Athletic and Recreation Center (BARC) and the new stadium. The campus Heating Plant will also be utilized during this exercise.
Details of the Exercise:
Dates: Setup on Wednesday, July 17, with the exercise occurring on Thursday, July 18, 2024.
Location: The area between the Bulldog Athletic and Recreation Center (BARC) and the new stadium. The campus Heating Plant will also be utilized during this exercise. Foot traffic is to be expected by military personnel between the Heating Plant and the BARC area throughout the exercise.
Objective: To enhance the readiness and effectiveness of the National Guard’s response in a situation involving hazardous materials. This exercise will include a simulated hazmat scenario and response, involving multiple trucks and vehicles.
No hazardous materials or chemicals will be used or discharged for this training event.
All military role-players will be clearly identifiable and/or in full hazmat gear (personal protective equipment) throughout the duration of the exercise.
No changes to regular business operations or campus traffic will occur, but please be aware of the increased activity in these designated training areas on campus. We appreciate the understanding of the campus and Dillon community and thank them for their continued support of our local first responders and military personnel.
