Search And Rescue News

Submitted by: Mel Rice, Public Relations

On Saturday, December 7, the Beaverhead Search and Rescue held an after dark training.  Most of our trainings are in the daylight hours, however, most of our actual rescues/searches are in the middle of the night.   This particular training represented a rescue of individual(s) off a steep embankment as in a vehicular accident.  The training started with rigging rehearsal, procedures for going down and back up a steep incline, and the use of mechanical advantages for lowering the rescue team to the patient and retrieval of the patient.  There were two practice groups that participated in going off the embankment with an attendant and bringing a littered patient and attendant back up the slope to safety.

Thanks to Steve Mock for putting together another great training experience for the unit.  Attendees were: Aaron Beard, Adam Norlander, Jack Bazemore, David Broadhead, Lance Hopman, Anthony Grant, and Steve Mock.  There were individuals from the Beaverhead Volunteer Fire Department who wanted to observe the training.  In their position responding to most vehicular accident, they may need to call on the SAR unit for assistance someday for an extrication off a mountain or steep highway embankment.  Fire fighters participating in the evening event were: Rob Dumke, Chris Murulo, Talon Anderson, Logan Norris, and Wendy Dumke.   Thank you all for your participation.  “In the Business of Saving Lives”, your Beaverhead Search and Rescue.
