As the high waters of Ruby Creek subside after this summer's flooding in western Montana, the Dillon Field Office is re-opening the Ruby Creek Campground and day-use site.
The recreation site, seven miles south of Cameron on US Highway 287, was closed June 13 due to water covering Ruby Creek Road.
“Water has receded over the past couple days and the primary threat of flooding has passed,” said Acting Dillon Field Manager Pat Fosse. “We have for the most part avoided major damages within the site and to the road.”
The public is advised to avoid driving across any roadway with water on it and to stay off swollen rivers in the Upper and Lower Madison area because flows on local streams are extremely high due to continued heavy rainfall and snowmelt. This applies to tributaries as well since they are at much higher flows than average at this time.
