UMW Sports Press Release

DILLON, Mont. — The Montana Western volleyball team (18-6, 5-5) fell to the University of Providence Argos (15-10, 7-3) in a five-set thriller by scores of 16-25, 25-12, 18-25, 25-13, and 13-15. Today's matchup was also senior day for the Bulldogs.

How It Happened

UMW jumped out to a 7-3 lead following a kill from Peyton Vogl. Though the lead seemed promising, Providence's Ruby Morse served the Argos to a 6-0 run to reclaim a lead at 9-7. A block from Vogl and Jordan Olson paired with an ace from the serving had of Kaylee Fritz brought the Bulldogs within four of the Argos, but the Argos were too much for UMW and took a set lead after a 25-16 win.

Back-to-back blocks from the Bulldog front got the Bulldogs going in the second frame. UMW capitalized on 13 Argo hitting errors and rode the powerful start to hit .286 and take the second frame 25-12.

Sophie Worden served the Bulldogs to a quick 7-0 lead in the third frame. Though a promising start, Providence jumped right back in, bringing the game within just two following four Bulldog errors. Knotted at 12 all, UP's Morse served an ace that gave the Argos their first lead of the set. UP controlled momentum and won the set 25-18.

Down 9-8 in the fourth frame, Jazi Smith pounded down a kill, kicking off a string of Bulldog points. The pair of Vogl and Perez worked the net, raking in two blocks in the 7-0 mid-set run. The Bulldogs would race to take the set 25-13.

The final set showcased three blocks in a row from the hands of Vogl, Perez, and Smith. Despite early success, the Bulldogs fell in the end 15-13.
