DILLON, Mont. — A passing hailstorm created hazardous driving conditions on Interstate 15 Saturday afternoon, sending multiple vehicles off the roadway near mile marker 81.

First responders were initially called to the area after reports that several vehicles had slid off the interstate due to hail covering the roadway.

A Beaverhead County Sheriff's deputy arrived on scene and found multiple vehicles involved. One passenger vehicle was reportedly able to get back onto the roadway, while a truck pulling a trailer sustained some damage after leaving the interstate.

While the deputy was still on scene, a motorcycle also went off the roadway due to the hail, prompting an additional response from the fire department and ambulance.

According to scanner traffic, the motorcyclist was up and walking following the incident. The extent of any injuries was not immediately known.

Drivers traveling through Southwest Montana should use caution when thunderstorms move through the area. Hail can quickly accumulate on highways and create slick conditions with little warning.

Additional information will be provided if it becomes available.
