DILLON, Mont. – The Montana Western women's basketball team (7-9) pulled off an impressive upset against (RV) Montana Tech (11-6) on Wednesday evening, securing a 72-68 victory.

“After a slow start, we persevered and had a great second half,” said Head Coach Britt Cooper. “The fight this team has is uncontainable.”

Leading the Bulldogs was Kenzi Pedersen, who tied her career high with 20 points.

How it Happened

The game began with the Bulldogs demonstrating solid performance, with Pedersen scoring 10 of her 20 points and Trinidie Nichols sinking two corner three-pointers, giving Montana Western a narrow 21-20 lead.

Montana Tech responded in the second quarter with a 10-3 run, highlighted by an opening three-point basket from Ava Bellach. However, timely baskets from Pedersen and Sami Love helped the Bulldogs narrow the gap to 34-42 heading into halftime.

In the third quarter, Montana Western found themselves trailing by as much as seven points, but a couple of three-pointers from Hagy along with a free throw brought Tech’s lead down to 54-52.

Early in the fourth quarter, Keke Davis was fouled on a layup and converted the and-one situation, putting UMW ahead 58-56.

After a basket by Tech tied the game, the Bulldogs answered back with six consecutive points to regain their lead. In the final two minutes, the defense contributed with several key stops, and clutch free throws secured the hard-fought victory for Montana Western.
