Montana Western Welcomes Students to Orientation and Convocation



The University of Montana Western will hold New Student Orientation from Thursday, Aug. 19 to Sunday, Aug. 22.

Activities will begin Thursday morning as students move into the Residence Halls. If you are interested in volunteering for Move-In Day, please visit https://www.umwestern.edu/orientation/ and fill out the “Montana Western Moving Company Sign Up Form” to schedule a designated shift. Convocation, the official start of the school year ceremony, will take place Friday at 10:00 a.m. in the Straugh Gymnasium and will feature an inspirational keynote address by the speaker Alexa Carlin.

Carlin is on a mission to make a difference in at least one person’s life every single day. Through her authentic energy and impactful stories, Carlin empowers students to push through obstacles, develop a positive mindset, and build unwavering courage and confidence. To learn more about Alexa Carlin, visit https://www.alexacarlin.com/. Parents, friends, and the community of Dillon are invited to attend Convocation and the Legacy Plaza Ceremony that follows. A free lunch will be served after the ceremonies at 11:30 a.m. on the Mathews Lawn.


Orientation will continue throughout the weekend with a series of events designed to familiarize new students with the Montana Western and Dillon community. Events will include sessions about the Experience One program, a football scrimmage, community scavenger hunt, hiking to the “M”, and much more.
