The University of Montana Western Fine Arts Gallery is honored to present “Where Things Settle: The Space of Becoming” by UMW Students Lacey Boots, Samantha Carr, Emily Hansen, Racheal Hanson, Emilee Malcomb, and Granville Parham. The exhibition will open on Thursday, January 29, and will feature a gallery reception from 5:00–7:00 p.m. in the Fine Arts Gallery, located in Main Hall.
The “Where Things Settle: The Space of Becoming” brings together work by upper-level art students at a moment of transition. This show will show case the works of Lacey Boots, Samantha Carr, Emily Hansen, Racheal Hanson, Emilee Malcomb, and Granville Parham.
The exhibition reflects practices shaped through sustained inquiry—where material decisions, conceptual questions, and personal languages have begun to find clarity, while remaining open to change. These works occupy a space between resolution and possibility.

They are attentive to process, form, and intention, acknowledging that making is not only about arrival, but about learning where to pause, where to listen, and where growth continues.
Together, the exhibition offers a view of work that has settled enough to be seen clearly, yet remains in motion—holding space for what is still becoming.
“Where Things Settle: The Space of Becoming” will be on display in Montana Western’s Fine Arts Gallery from January 29 to February 20. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. The January 21 gallery reception is open to all and will feature light refreshments. We look forward to seeing you there!
