Polaris, Mt Residents evacuated from Grasshopper Valley may temporarily return to their homes Friday morning to retrieve essential belongings and check their property, according to the Beaverhead County Sheriff’s Office.

Access to the evacuated area will be permitted from 9:30 a.m. until noon on Friday, Aug. 14, 2026.

Anyone entering the area must check in with law enforcement personnel at the roadblock. Residents will be required to:

  • Present identification.

  • Provide the address they plan to visit.

  • Record the time they enter the affected area.

  • Record the time they leave.

All residents must be out of the evacuation area by noon. Officials said changing fire conditions could increase the danger, and people should be ready to leave immediately if directed by emergency personnel.

The temporary access period is intended only to give residents an opportunity to collect necessary items and inspect their property while conditions allow.

Access will be evaluated daily and may be permitted or restricted depending on fire activity and public-safety concerns.

Residents should not delay their departure or remain in the area past the noon deadline.

Wildfire conditions can change rapidly. The public is encouraged to monitor official emergency alerts and follow all instructions from the Beaverhead County Sheriff’s Office, local authorities and fire personnel.

Officials emphasized that protecting residents and emergency responders remains the highest priority.
