FWP to discuss new fishing regulation process during Zoom meeting Wednesday

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks will host a statewide Zoom meeting on Wednesday, May 11, at 6 p.m., to discuss changes to the fishing regulations process.


The department is moving to a biennial process for the fishing regulations starting this year. The biggest change the public will see is that fishing regulations booklets will be printed only on odd-numbered years, with the next booklet ready by March 1, 2023, and valid through Feb. 28, 2025. The regulations review process for the 2025-2026 booklet will being in early 2024.

People can submit ideas for regulation changes to fwpfishcomments@mt.gov or through the FWP website at https://fwp.mt.gov/fish/regulations/public-comment. Ideas will be accepted until May 27. Fishing regulations changes will also be discussed at public meetings and Citizen Advisory Council (CAC) meetings that are scheduled around the state.

    • May 17 - CAC meeting at the Lone Pine Visitor Center, 5 p.m.

    • May 19 – Libby, City Hall – Ponderosa Room, 952 E. Spruce, 4-7 p.m.
