FWP Lands in Beaverhead County Enter Stage I Fire Restrictions Aug. 13

DILLON, Mont. — Lands in Beaverhead County managed by Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) will be placed under Stage I fire restrictions beginning Thursday, August 13, as dry conditions and elevated wildfire danger continue across the region.
FWP follows county decisions when implementing fire restrictions on properties it manages within a county. The restrictions will remain in effect until further notice.
Under Stage I restrictions, building, maintaining, attending or using a fire or campfire is prohibited unless an exemption applies.
Smoking is also restricted and is only allowed inside an enclosed vehicle or building, at a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that has been cleared of all flammable materials.

People recreating on FWP-managed lands may continue to cook using a liquid petroleum gas or propane stove that can be turned off.
FWP is urging residents and visitors to use extra caution while recreating outdoors due to the extremely dry conditions and increased fire danger.
The FWP restrictions follow Beaverhead County's implementation of Stage 1 fire restrictions on private lands under county jurisdiction.
With active wildfires burning in Southwest Montana and dry conditions continuing, residents and visitors should check current restrictions before traveling or recreating outdoors.
The FWP restrictions take effect August 13 and will remain in place until further notice.
