Drone Weed Spraying Planned at High Trails Near Dillon July 22-23

DILLON, Mont. — The Beaverhead Trails Coalition (BTC) is asking the public to avoid portions of the High Trails on Wednesday, July 22, and Thursday, July 23, while crews conduct drone weed spraying as part of ongoing land management efforts.

According to the coalition, herbicide applications will be made by drone in several areas of the trail system, including:

• West Trailhead

• Dan's Draw Two-Track Road

• Northwest Pasture

BTC is asking hikers, horseback riders, mountain bikers, and other trail users to avoid these areas while spraying operations are underway and to help spread the word to others planning to visit the High Trails.

The organization said managing invasive weeds is an important part of maintaining the High Trails and protecting native vegetation throughout the property.

Two invasive species in particular—kochia and Russian thistle—have become increasingly difficult to control through hand-pulling alone, prompting the use of drone technology to more efficiently target affected areas.

The weed management effort is intended to reduce the spread of noxious weeds and improve habitat conditions for native grasses and plants.

The Beaverhead Trails Coalition thanked the public for its cooperation and patience while the work is completed and encourages trail users to plan accordingly during the two-day spraying operation.
