Donated Trees Take Root Across Dillon, Including Mountain View Cemetery

DILLON, Mont. — Seventeen trees donated by Allen Landscaping are bringing new shade and greenery to local parks, hospital grounds and Mountain View Cemetery.

When the landscaping company had leftover trees available, it contacted the Dillon Tree Board to arrange a donation. Ann and Jim Egan then helped determine where the trees would be planted.

Three went to the hospital, six to local parks and three to the Big Hole. Some of the park plantings replaced shade lost when a tree at Vigilante Park was struck by lightning in July and had to be removed.

The remaining five trees were planted Wednesday, Sept. 23, at Mountain View Cemetery with help from employees of the local DNRC office and cemetery workers.

The crews selected locations that would benefit from new trees, dug planting holes and prepared the root balls after removing the trees from their containers.

Once planted, the trees were watered and pruned. Protective fencing was placed around them to keep deer from browsing on the new growth.

As the trees mature, they will provide shade for people visiting loved ones at the cemetery and add greenery to the grounds.
