DILLON, MT – On Wednesday evening, the Dillon Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to respond to a brush fire off Gamblers Run Road.
The fire began when a homeowner added wood to an outdoor wood-fired boiler and heating system. A few embers flew out and landed in a nearby field, igniting the dry grass.
The blaze spread rapidly due to high winds in the area. The DVFD, in conjunction with the Sheriff’s Department, acted swiftly to contain the fire. As of now, crews are working diligently to extinguish hotspots and ensure that the fire does not reignite amid continuing windy conditions.
The Dillon Volunteer Fire Department reminds the public that even though it is spring, the ground remains dry, and accidental fires can start easily.
