Dillon Cubs Fall to Glendive, Remain Alive in State A Tournament (Photo Gallery)

The Dillon Cubs dropped their first game of the State A American Legion Baseball Tournament on Thursday night, falling 9-2 to the Glendive Blue Devils A. Despite the loss, the Cubs remain alive in the double-elimination tournament and will return to the field today at 2:30 p.m. in an elimination game.

Glendive struck first in the top of the second inning when Gradin Sukut doubled to drive in the game's opening run. The Blue Devils extended their lead to 2-0 in the third after Easton Schriver stole home.

The game broke open in the fifth inning as Glendive plated five runs on five hits. Sukut delivered the big blow with a two-run triple, while Chance Cullinan added an RBI double. Two Dillon errors also led to runs during the inning as the Blue Devils built a commanding 7-0 advantage.

The Cubs answered in the bottom of the sixth. Sawyer Tackett launched a solo home run to left field, and Ben Peacock later drew a bases-loaded walk to score Dillon's second run, trimming the deficit to 7-2. Glendive added two more runs late to seal the 9-2 victory.

Quinn Hoffer earned the win for the Blue Devils, allowing seven hits and two runs—one earned—over 6 1/3 innings while striking out nine and walking one.

Trenton Moreni took the loss for Dillon after pitching four innings, giving up two runs—one earned—on three hits while striking out five and issuing five walks.

Moreni and Tackett each collected two hits for the Cubs, with Tackett finishing 2-for-4, driving in one run and providing Dillon's lone extra-base hit with his sixth-inning home run.

Glendive totaled 11 hits in the contest, led by Sukut, who went 3-for-5 with four RBIs. Connor Guldborg and Hoffer also recorded multiple-hit games. The Blue Devils showed patience at the plate, drawing six walks, with Brock McPherson and Isaac Eaton each earning two free passes.

The loss sends Dillon into the elimination bracket, where the Cubs will look to keep their season alive when they take the field again today at 2:30 p.m. A win would keep Dillon's championship hopes alive, while a second loss would end its run in the State A Tournament.
