BOZEMAN, Mont. — The Montana Western rodeo team kicked off the spring with the Montana State University Spring Rodeos #1 and #2.
Bulldog sophomore Tavy Leno rounded out the weekend by winning the women's all-around title on Sunday afternoon. She placed third overall in the average of the women's breakaway roping while also finishing in second in women's goat tying in the average.
In addition, Laura Haight had a tremendous breakout weekend for the Bulldog women. She took home the barrel racing title in the first rodeo on Friday night and finished with four clean runs on the weekend.
"It has been a long two days. Our athletes competed really hard and I am really proud of them," Head Coach JT Robbins said. "Some of our athletes really stepped up like Laura Haight, it is really hard to get in four barrel runs in this building like that. Tavy Leno winning the all-around is huge. I am just proud of the whole group."
Top Performers Rodeo #1
After recording two rides in saddle bronc, Cade Costello scored a total of 127 points to take first in the average.
Laura Haight finished first in the barrel racing average, recording a combined 29.18 on both nights.
Trevor Kay finished second in the average in bareback riding after totaling 142 points on his two rides.
Cole Trexler finished second in steer wrestling with an 11.1.
Tavy Leno finished second in breakaway roping with an average of 7.0. She also finished fourth in goat tying with a combined 19.2 in the average.
Desi Coombs followed with a 2.4 in her first run to finish third in breakaway roping.
Jake Deveraux and Teegan Leno placed third in team roping with a 6.8 in their opening run.
After scoring a 19.3 in goat tying, Brooke Richey finished in fifth in the average.
Cooper Pavkov combined for 13.6 in the steer wrestling average to finish sixth in the average.
Top Performers Rodeo #2
Leno rounded out the weekend by winning the women's all-around title. She placed third overall in the average of the women's breakaway roping with a 5.3. She also finished in second in women's goat tying in the average with a 13.9.
Kay's 78-point ride in the short-go put him on top in the average to win bareback riding with an average of 149.
The pair of Deveraux and Leno claimed the top spot in team roping with a combined 13.1.
After putting together a 9.8, Coby King finished in second in the steer wrestling average.
Carson Klingler landed a score of 43 in saddle bronc riding on night one to put him in third in the final standings.
Haight claimed third in the average for barrel racing, totaling 29.58 on the weekend.
The pair of Talyn Neville and Tynell Mclnenly finished fourth in team roping with a combined time of 23.6.
Richey landed in fifth in breakaway roping with an average of 7.2. She also claimed sixth in goat tying with an average of 15.5.
Hannah Griffin posted a combined 29.59 in barrel racing to take fifth place.
Pavkov finished in fifth in steer wrestling after an average of 11.0.
Gavin Knutson's 27.2 was enough to put him in sixth in tie down roping.

The Bulldogs will hit the road this week and head to Miles City Community College for a pair of rodeos. Events begin on Thursday night at 7pm in the Miles Community College Ag Advancement Center in Miles City, Mont. The pair of rodeos will run through Sunday afternoon.
