Author Juliana Hoolihan Clayton will be signing copies of her books at The Bookstore on Saturday, September 21st from 1:00-3:00. Clayton is an indigenous author (First Nations Plains Cree). Having been adopted by a white family and raised on a cattle ranch in Wyoming, she has lived and worked with Native Americans and cowboys throughout the West. With a degree in history and inspired by her work as a research consultant, she has created a series of books that honor the Native tradition of teaching through story by way of factual narratives pertaining to the history of the American West and its consequences for American Indian peoples.
There are four books (to date)in the the Discretion Series: Commendable Discretion (A Detective Novel of the Old West), With Great Discretion (A Novel of Factual History about Heroism & the Cheyenne People), Small Light of Discretion ( a novel of factual history regarding Treachery and the Expulsion of the Utes) and Discretion is Valor (A Novel of Factual and Grievous History Pertaining to the Chihenne & Mescalero Apache). Two books in the series have been finalists in the High Plains Book Awards.
Through painstaking and accurate research the reader will become completely engrossed in the 19th century American West. The author brings the reader into every scene through rock solid history, cultural competence and suspense.
