DILLON, MT – The Beaverhead County Varsity Beavers faced challenges on Tuesday, falling to the Belgrade Varsity Panthers in an 18-5 loss.

The Beavers managed to get on the board early in the bottom of the first inning when Andrew Bartlome grounded out, allowing Marcus Lagunas to single down the left field line and score a run. However, the Panthers captured the lead in the top of the second inning with a series of plays: Ryas Olson was hit by a pitch, driving in a run, followed by an error that allowed two more runs to score, and another hit-by-pitch call for Max Dunning added another run, giving Belgrade a 4-2 advantage.

The scoring continued in the top of the third inning as the Panthers added five runs on just two hits. Olson was again struck by a pitch, contributing to the score, while Sawyer Olson singled, bringing in two runs, with an error allowing two additional runs to cross the plate.

Belgrade maintained their offensive pressure in the sixth inning, scoring five more runs. Olson drew a walk to add a run, followed by another single from Olson and walks from Dunning, Gage Banks, and Tyler Ritter, each driving in a run.

On the mound, Cohen Hartman started for the Beaverhead County Varsity Beavers and allowed two hits and four runs (one earned) over one and two-thirds innings, striking out none and walking one. For the Panthers, Banks started and gave up four hits and three runs in three innings, striking out one and walking one.

Bartlome led the Beavers with four RBIs, finishing the game 1-for-4, while Lagunas was the top hitter for Beaverhead County, going 2-for-3 at the plate.

The Belgrade Varsity Panthers showcased their hitting prowess with a total of 11 hits in the game. Brayton Van Dyken, Andrew Hazen, and Olson each contributed two hits for Belgrade, with the Olson duo proving difficult to handle back-to-back in the lineup, driving in three runs apiece. Additionally, Ritter led the team with two walks, and Belgrade displayed a strong approach at the plate, accumulating a total of 11 walks throughout the game. The Panthers also turned two double plays, showcasing their defensive skills.

The Beaverhead County Varsity Beavers will be looking to bounce back as they travel to face the Broadwater Varsity Bulldogs for their next game on Thursday.
